Rituals
Four rituals, and the time each one needs.
Everything we do, in detail: what is included, how the hour runs and what it costs. Prices are the prices — there is no surcharge for length, thickness or a Saturday.

01 · The house cut, unhurried.
Signature cut
The cut we are known for. It starts sitting up, in daylight, with a conversation about how your hair actually behaves on a Tuesday morning — not how it looked the day you walked in here. Then it is scissors, mostly, and time.
What is included
- Ten minutes of consultation before anything is touched
- Wash and scalp massage with a cedar and clove tonic
- Scissor cut, worked dry as well as wet
- Neck and outline finished with an open razor
- Hot towel, balm, and a finish you can repeat at home
How the hour runs
- 01ConsultationSitting up, coat still on. We look at the hair dry and at how it falls when you have done nothing to it.
- 02WashWarm water, cedar and clove tonic, five minutes of scalp work. This is the part nobody books for and everybody remembers.
- 03The cutScissors over comb, checked dry twice. We cut for the four weeks after today, not for the mirror in front of you.
- 04Razor finishNeck, outline and around the ear finished with an open blade and hot lather.
- 05FinishTowel, a small amount of product, and a two-minute explanation of how to do it yourself tomorrow.

02 · Steam, oil, lather, two passes.
Straight-razor shave
A shave the way it was done before cartridges: hot steam to soften, oil to protect, badger-brush lather built in a bowl, then two passes with an open blade — with the grain, then across it.
What is included
- Two hot towels and pre-shave oil
- Lather built by hand in a warmed bowl
- Two passes with a stropped open razor
- Cold towel and an alum finish
- Alcohol-free balm chosen for your skin
How the hour runs
- 01SteamTwo hot towels, four minutes. The beard softens; there is nothing to do but sit.
- 02Oil and latherPre-shave oil, then lather built in a warmed bowl with a badger brush and worked into the beard.
- 03First passWith the grain, in short sections, the skin held taut. Slow is the whole technique.
- 04Second passAcross the grain where your skin allows it, re-lathered in between.
- 05Cold and balmCold towel to close, alum block, alcohol-free balm. You leave without the sting.

03 · The whole thing, ninety minutes.
Gentleman's hour (cut + shave)
Both rituals in one sitting, and the reason most people book a whole morning off. Ninety minutes: the signature cut, then the full shave, with a second pour arriving somewhere in the middle without anybody mentioning it.
What is included
- The complete signature cut
- The complete straight-razor shave
- A second pour, brought halfway through
- Beard oil or balm to take home
- The chair booked with a gap after it, so nobody hurries you out
How the hour runs
- 01ConsultationHair and beard together, since one changes how the other reads.
- 02The cutThe full signature cut, scissors and razor finish.
- 03The pauseChair back, second pour, five minutes of nothing at all.
- 04The shaveSteam, oil, lather and two passes with the open blade.
- 05FinishCold towel, balm, and beard oil wrapped for the coat pocket.

04 · Softened, not hidden.
Grey blending
Not a dye job. We take the grey back by roughly half so it reads as light hair rather than as colour, using an ammonia-free tone that fades out instead of growing out in a line.
What is included
- Tone matched in daylight at the window, not under lamps
- Ammonia-free colour, twenty minutes on
- Blended through the temples and beard if you want it
- Washed out and finished dry
- A line-free grow-out; no monthly obligation
How the hour runs
- 01MatchingAt the window, in daylight, against your own hair rather than a swatch card.
- 02ApplicationAmmonia-free tone worked through the grey areas only. Twenty minutes.
- 03RinseWashed out, conditioned, checked wet and dry.
- 04FinishDried and dressed so you can see it in ordinary light before you leave.
Questions
Asked at the door, answered here.
Do I have to book, or can I walk in?
Book. There are four chairs and each one is held for the whole ritual, so an unbooked chair is genuinely rare. If you are standing outside anyway, ring — sometimes a slot has just opened.
How long before my appointment should I arrive?
Five minutes is plenty. Your pour is set down at the chair at the time you booked, and we would rather it was still warm — or still cold — when you sit.
What happens if I am late?
We hold the chair for fifteen minutes and shorten the ritual to fit. Beyond that we have to move you, because the chair after yours belongs to somebody else.
Can I bring my son?
Yes. Under sixteens are €38 for a cut, and they get the same towel, the same conversation and a ginger beer instead of the whisky.
Do you sell the products you use?
The tonic, the balm and the beard oil are on the shelf by the door. Nobody will mention them while you are in the chair.
What if I do not drink alcohol?
Coffee, tea, or nothing at all. The question is asked once, when you book, and never again in the room.
How do I cancel?
Call or email up to twenty-four hours before and there is no charge. Inside twenty-four hours we ask for half the price of the ritual, because the chair stays empty.
